LucidControl USB Digital Input Module
The LucidControl product family offers USB Modules for digital signal processing. Digital Output Modules can be used to generate signals and control power loads – its counterpart is the USB Digital Input Module.
With the USB Digital Input Module it is possible to acquire up to 4 digital signal states as voltage levels.
Digital Input Threshold Levels
In order to provide highest flexibility, the module covers three threshold levels of 5V, 10V and 24V. The 5V level is perfectly suited to interface 5V logic or e.g. to read a logic signal from a push button. The USB Digital Input Module is the best choice if there are no other requirements.
For industrial applications 24V signals are a standard. Using the module with the 24V threshold level option it the best selection whenever it is necessary to interact with industrial automation equipment.
Input Isolation
All digital inputs are optical and potential isolated which means that all 4 channels are completely independent and that an insolation layer ensures 100% separation between the digital inputs and the electronic and furthermore the connected computer. The picture shows that the input voltage source (right) is sourcing a LED. The light of the LED is detected by a photo-transistor which finally closes the circuit. This kind of isolation saves the connected hardware effectively.
Digital Input Modes
Beside of the reading of input signals, the module has more signal conditioning implemented. In order to improve the quality if the input signal, filters can be applied to each input ensuring proper debouncing of the input line by double reading of a signal before it is forwarded.
Additionally, the digital input module is able to count pulses and to detect rising and falling edged of a signal in real-time. This allows processing of fast signals at high sample rate and reliable detection of signal transitions. For the connected computer it is not necessary to poll the signal permanently at high speed because the module stores detected events until the computer reads it.
