LucidControl USB IO Modules in a Nutshell

LucidControl USB IO modules are portable and work on Microsoft Windows® as well as on Linux. Thanks to a standardized device driver which is included in most operating systems, out of the box installation is very easy and the modules can be used within minutes.

The IO devices are compatible with the popular Raspberry Pi® and there is nearly no limit in applications. Web based services and mobile applications are only two possible examples.

All LucidControl USB IO modules can be controlled by using the same easy to use software which makes working with the modules very simple. Once a module is connected to the computer it starts working immediately.

Using LucidControl USB IO modules is absolutely straight forward where it does not matter how many modules are connected to the computer. Utilizing the provided command line tool, the Java® or Python API give full access to all functions of the devices .

The LucidControl product family consists of powerful Plug-and-Play USB IO Modules with outstanding capabilities turning a computer to a modular digital and analog data acquisition, monitoring and control system.

LucidControl IO Modules capture and generate analog and digital signals like voltages, temperatures, resistances, logic states and clocks. By generating output signals it is able to control power loads like lamps, fans or pumps via USB.

The USB IO Modules need only to be connected to a computer via Universal Serial Bus. The power required by the devices is supplied by USB what makes the modules most cost effective since no additional components like power supplies or adapters needed.

The industrial ready LucidControl modules are equipped with industrial standard IO connectors. This, in combination with the possibility to attach them on DIN-Rails makes them the best solution for automation projects and switch boxes.

LucidControl USB IO Modules can be used for various cases. Everywhere where signals are acquired and generated e.g. in the home automation section, the devices can be used to control power loads like fans or lawn sprinklers realizing a simple time switch or much more sophisticated tasks like measuring and logging of temperature and humidity.

LucidControl USB IO Modules are also dedicated to the energy management field because of being able to measure environmental data like temperatures and humidity. By providing clocked outputs and standardized analog 0 to 10V interfaces, pumps, valves or mixers of a heating systems can be controlled depending on measured temperatures.

For hobby purposes the reasonably priced devices can be used to control LED lightning and creation of different lightning scenarios.

Not to mention that all of these applications are only a few examples and can be easily controlled remotely over the Internet by using a smartphone. From this moment forth there are nearly no limits in possibilities and applications.

Wide Range of Analog IO & Digital IO

It is our aim to cover a wide range of analog and digital signals with our LucidControl USB IO modules.

LucidControl USB digital input modules acquire logic signals and are compatible with signal threshold levels of 5V, 10V and 24V. They can interface other control systems or e.g. read the state of a switch or push button.

LucidControl USB digital output modules are ready to drive various output signals or to control power loads. The outputs are carried out in 3 different ways: In order to avoid distortion of the measured signal e.g. of a temperature sensor mechanical relays are available.
Solid state relays and open collector outputs are ready to generate general purpose digital output signals as well as driving power loads like heaters, valves or fans. Additionally, LucidControl aa href=”>USB Relay Modules allow to switch signals like temperature sensors without distortion.

LucidControl USB analog input modules measure voltages in the range of 5V, 10V and 24V.

LucidControl USB analog output modules generate voltages in the range of 5V, 10V and 24V. They are also available with current outputs driving up to 22mA. Both, the USB analog inputs and the USB analog outputs build a 0-10V interface which is common in industrial and home automation.

Finally, the LucidControl USB RTD input modules measure the resistance and temperature of a standard Pt1000 sensor. In combination with the other modules heat control and energy management are only two possible applications to mention.

LucidControl USB IO Modules can be used with nearly all computers running Microsoft Windows or Linux. In addition cheap and small computers like the Raspberry Pi® and the Beagle Bone Black, which provide USB, network and display interfaces, are predestinated working together with LucidControl.

Thanks to the supported Linux operating system these computer boards can handle lots of tasks very easily. Many software applications like popular Internet servers and reliable databases are available on the Internet and can be downloaded for free. Once an Internet server was installed LucidControl is reachable with all its functionality remotely by web browsers – secure and all over the world.

Logging and monitoring of sensor data and recording of events in a professional database can realized with minimal effort.

There are many example applications available demonstrating the use of LucidControl.

Software & Documentation

In order to make the setup as simple as possible a large and still growing software package is available. The package includes also documentation as well as tutorials giving valuable information and ideas for manifold applications.

The command line tool is compatible with all LucidControl USB IO Modules and can be used in order configure and control them without any single line of programming. Giving full access to the modules and being available for all major operating systems without installation, it saves development time. The command line tool is best suited to create portable applications as they are required for web access easily.

Libraries for many programming languages like Java or Python are available.Additionally, the modules are completely documented without anything being excluded or kept secret which allows creation of new interfaces or supporting other architectures.
