Serial RS-485 Modbus Digital Output and Relay Module
Control of 4/6/8/16 digital output channels or relays
The Lucid485 Modbus Digital Output Module is a flexible control solution for digital lines. It allows the generation of high/low signals and the control of power consumers.
Module options
Output Configuration | Function |
---|---|
Solid State Relay (SSR) outputs | The optical and potential isolated outputs are realized by using solid state relays (SSR).
The Serial Relay Module with SSR provides the best overall capabilities and high protection level for controlling power loads like pumps, fans or heating elements by statically switching or by periodically pulsing. Each digital output is rated with 30 V and 0.75 A and can switch loads up to 22.5 Watt. The output channels are independent, they do not share common connections or common grounds. The solid state relay modules are available in 4/8 channel versions (DO4-I and DO8-I) |
SPDT Relay outputs | Using the Serial Modbus Relay Module with mechanical SPDT (C-Type) relay switches allows to switch power consumers as well as to switch or toggle signals e.g. for measurements without distortion.
The Lucid485 relay module is available in 4 and 6 channel versions (DO4-S and DO6-S). |
OPEN Collector outputs | The RS-485 Digital Output Module with open collector output channels can be used in order to generate digital signals or to control power consumers. In contradiction to the SSR outputs they are not isolated and they have a common ground.
They are available with 4/8 output channels (DO4-O and DO8-O) Since the outputs share common ground, a higher number of IOs is possible. The DO16-O Digital Output Module is a 16 channel version of the open collector output module. The DO16-O provides also a 5V output voltage which can be used to create pull-up outputs. |
Please find here more information about the characteristics of the different Modbus digital outputs.
Digital Output operation modes
For most flexibility each channel of the Serial Relay Module can be configured on one of the following modes:
Mode | Function |
---|---|
Reflect Mode | Generates a digital output signal by setting the channels state directly.
This mode is supported by all modules. |
Duty-Cycle Mode | Generates a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) by configuring cycle time and duty cycle. This mode can be used in order to control the power of loads by pulsing them periodically. This mode is not supported by SPDT relay outputs. |
On-Off Mode | Generates a time sequenced output signal. Using this mode the Lucd485 Serial IO Module can be used to realize e.g. time switches.
This mode is supported by all modules. |
Multi-protocol support
In order to be most flexible, the Lucid485 module supports multiple protocols. The Modbus RTU protocol gives access to IO values like voltage or digital states.
The LucidControl Network Frame protocol is compatible with of our IO modules and gives full documented access to the unit.
Support of the industry standard ASCII protocol is planned.
Output processing
The Lucid485 Serial Modbus IO Module provides functions which allow to access the outputs without direct interaction of the host computer. This allows a precise timing which would not be realizable if the host computer was involved.
Optical indication of digital output states
The state of each digital output is reflected by a LED
Easy installation of Hard and Software
The Lucid485 Modbus RTU Digital Output Modules are easy to install and start working immediately after set up.
Tools like the Command Line Tool and APIs for Windows and Linux are available. The API is ready for .NET, Java and Python.
