What are the USB Analog Input Modules being used for?

4 Channel USB Analog Input Module
The LucidControl USB analog input module is designed and developed in order to acquire analog voltages signals and convert the analog input voltage into its equivalent digital value for further processing and use by subsequent automation systems.
The LucidControl USB analog input module is configured to provide 4 analog interfaces with 5V, 10V and 24V input ranges. The USB ADC modules are also available for negative input ranges so that it is also possible to acquire voltages of e.g. -10V to +10V.
The analog input module guarantees an accuracy of 0.25% by using a high resolution of 14 bit which is suitable for most measurement and monitoring applications and which is a very good compromise between accuracy and costs.

USB ADC module for 0-10V and 4-20mA interfaces

LucidControl USB ADC Module Schematic Connection
USB analog input modules can be used in order to interact with applications which support a 0-10V interface. These interfaces are most common in automation business and the building sector. Many peripherals are available for this standard. Flow meters and pressure sensors are only two examples of devices delivering a 0-10V output signal which is e.g. proportional to the measured value.
All these devices can interface with the versatile LucidControl AI4 – USB Analog Input Module populating the metered value to a processing and control system.
4-20mA interfaces on the other hand are used in noisy environment and also when data should be transmitted loss-free over long distances. While a voltage applied to a transmission line can cause a voltage drop on the line which leads to a measurement error, current loops avoid this problem by sourcing a current instead a voltage. The current flowing through a resistor parallel to the clamps of the USB ADC module causes then a voltage drop proportional to the sourced current across the resistor. The loss of the transmission line can be neglected and the voltage measured by the USB analog input module is highly accurate.

Additional Advantages of the LucidControl Series

In addition to the mentioned characteristics of the USB ADC module, LucidControl products have lots of features making them unique.
Firstly, they are working immediately after they are connected to the USB port of any computer. They support Microsoft Windows operating systems as well as Linux and there is no need of specific drivers – most computers have the driver software already installed.
LucidControl USB IO modules are not only flexible regarding the operating system but also when computer hardware is affected. Beside of standard devices like Laptops and Desktop computers, all LucidControl modules work together with famous embedded computers as they are represented by the Raspberry Pi and the TI Beagle Bone Black. Connect the LucidControl USB ADC module to them and start your data acquisition application. Logging of measurement data into a robust professional database system like MySQL can be realized without trouble is a minimum of development time.
The ADC module is also best suited for mobile applications because there are no adapters or power supplies necessary to operate a LucidControl IO Module.
LucidControl IO modules come by standard with reliable and industrial prepared terminal connectors. The terminals are removable and cables can be fitted by tightening the skrew of each contact terminal. A professional housing which enables you to attach the module an DIN-Rails and to mount it in a switch cabinet completes the functionality and makes them the best choice for your professional automation projects – in the factory as well as at home.
