USB ADC Module Details

LucidControl USB ADC Input Module

The LucidControl USB ADC module measures analog input voltages or current signals. It belongs the the LucidControl USB Analog IO Module group of the LucidControl USB IO Module product series. The USB ADC Module converts analog input signals to its digital ADC value which can be further processed e.g. by a visualization software.

The LucidControl USB ADC module can measure 4 analog voltage or current channels with 5V, 10V 24V voltages and 0-20mA currents. The ±10V option of the USB ADC module can also measure negative voltages.

The resolution of the USB ADC input module is 12 bit and the accuracy of the measured result is typically 0.25% of the maximum measurement range. This means that the precision of the USB ADC input module with 0-10V value range is +/- 25mV.  This is a good trade-off between accuracy and pricing and sufficient for many general purpose automation applications.

USB ADC Voltage and Current Signals

USB ADC Input Module Schematic

The USB ADC module acquires the voltage or current between the IO terminals. The picture shows 4 voltage sources applied between the IO terminals.

The USB ADC input module acquires 4 analog voltage or current channels and it is available for the input ranges: 0-5V, 0-10V and 0-24V as well as a current option with 0-20mA range.

Optionally, the USB ADC Modules are also available for the negative input voltages: ±5V, ±10V and ±24V.

Special signal conditioning (e.g. oversampling and filtering) can increase accuracy and resolution of the measured result.

Benefits of the USB ADC Module

The LucidControl USB ADC module has an industrial enclosure which can be mounted on DIN-Rails in a switch cabinet. High quality plug-able IO terminals makes it a perfect solution for the automation industry.

The LucidControl USB ADC module starts immediately when it was connected to the USB port of a computer. The USB ADC input module supports like all LucidControl modules Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems. Driver installation is not necessary because USB ADC input module uses standard system drivers.

The IO module series consist of a range of different input output modules for analog and digital data acquisition and control that can be used in many monitoring projects.

The USB ADC module is low priced equipment and furthermore is prepared for portable applications since being USB power supplied and there is no need for extra supplies. It is enough to link the units by a conventional USB port to the host computer.

Students might make their initial programming steps with LucidControl USB ADC input modules and benefit from a steep learning curve. Because of an complete user manual, professional programming utilities and libraries for several relevant programming languages and also straight forward usage make the analog input modules a perfect automation solution for beginners as well as for professionals.

There are no power supplies needed running the USB ADC input module. After is was connected to the host computer it instantly starts operation.

Applications for e.g. measuring temperatures as they are usual in the DIY sector can be prepared tidy and straight forward by adding the USB ADC input module into distribution boxes.

Most OS such as MS Windows® and also Linux are supported by the IO modules immediately without driver installing. Beside of ordinary PC LucidControl IO modules are also compatible with embedded computers like the Texas Instrument Beagle Bone Black which makes the input output units very usable.

This enables all services provided by input output units being accessible through the world wide web and also to create database solutions on small computers operating with Linux operating system.
